A deep breath… The light, airy aroma of lavender fills the air with calmness and serenity. The freshness of the early morning is complemented by the measured buzzing of a thousand bees over a field of marvelous lilac balls. One of a dozen fields, as if by magic, spread around on meadows and hillsides, among olive and peach trees, creating a fabulous dream from which you do not want to wake up. Meeting the dawn surrounded by the endless lilac sea turned out to be one of the brightest and most inspiring impressions of this summer.

Exploring Kuyucak: The Heart of Turkey Lavender Fields

The Charm of Kuyucak Village

Kuyucak is a genuine Turkish village, strikingly different in atmosphere from other well-known places in Turkey. The village is small, with cobbled streets winding among rural mud-brick houses. The viscous and calm village life is punctuated by the lowing of cows, the bleating of goats, and the sweet aroma of wild lavender bushes at every turn. Time here seems to move a little slower, encouraging you to savor every moment.

Accommodations in Kuyucak

There are few places to stay in Kuyucak, but we chose Aliya Konak mini-hotel. This simple yet cozy and pleasant spot is housed in an authentic Turkish building. The highlight is a wonderful breakfast on the terrace overlooking a small lavender field. The playful kittens in the small courtyard always lift your spirits, and the overall atmosphere and hospitality of the owners are heartwarming.

Meeting Farmer Musa

Farmer Musa, who is 62 years old, has been growing lavender in Kuyucak for ten years. We noticed him when the sun had risen slightly over the hills. He greeted us with a smile and a lavender wreath in his hands, proudly announcing that Turkish television would soon film a story about his field. Though we didn’t stay for the television crew, we enjoyed cups of Turkish tea and an interesting conversation despite the language barrier. Musa shared stories about his life on the farm, and we even took a few photos for memories.
